SUMMARY: Installs, configures, and maintains routers, switches and firewalls. Utilizes a working knowledge of computer hardware and software systems, along with knowledge of network, server, and client operating systems. Implements and leads department projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists in developing and implementing short and long range strategic planning. Advises on how best to optimize the use of the county-wide physical and cloud network infrastructure. Stays current on applicable technologies including information security and monitoring/management tools. Implements information security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure they stay current and relevant. Configures and maintains data architecture and network infrastructure and acts as the key technical liaison between computer system clients, vendors and information services. Confirms required components in orders and installs hardware and peripheral equipment in both client and server environments. Maintains inventory, diagrams, and labeling for all county systems and network infrastructure. Assists with the design, implementation, monitoring, and support of hardware and software to support the county network. Assists with maintenance and support of network security equipment. Assists with the creation, implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures for equipment installation, configuration support, and network operations which improve service and repeatability. Diagnoses and troubleshoots issues with networking equipment and connectivity. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation. Refers major hardware issues to outside service personnel when necessary. Administers network, server, and client operating systems. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County s insurance carrier. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have at least two years of information technology experience, plus one of the following: 1) Bachelor s Degree from an accredited college or university and one year of business operations experience; or 2) Associate/Technical Degree from an accredited college or university and three years of business operations experience; or 3) high school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus five years of business operations experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, department personnel, regulatory agencies or members of the general public. Ability to effectively present information to county officials, department heads, governmental jurisdictions, and the public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Advanced understanding of network hardware, software, and services including but not limited to: VLANS, VOIP, routing topology, and firewalls.
