Job Description
Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is seeking a department chair to facilitate the potential merging of two existing departments: Teacher Education and Curriculum & Instruction. The chair will be responsible for leading the newly formed department and continue building upon a nationally recognized, strong foundation and history of the two programs.
The Department will help prepare future educators and education professionals in multiple subject areas for teacher certification, curriculum and instruction. Our faculty use scholarly inquiry and practice to guide decisions on all levels of educational activity, in K-12 and higher education settings. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Early Childhood (EC)-6 Core Subjects (reading emphasis), EC-6 Core Subjects (bilingual emphasis), Grade 4-8 Mathematics, and EC-12 Special Education. Graduate degrees are offered in Early Childhood Education, Instructional Design & Educational Technology, Special Education, Masters and Certification (MAC), Curriculum and Instruction, and Reading. Additionally, the Department offers PhD programs in Curriculum and Instruction and Literacy Studies. Position responsibilities may include evening and weekend work, distance education, a willingness to strengthen and expand links with the community and alumni, and commitment to participating in the planned reorganization of the department.
Required Qualifications
This departmental leader candidate must meet the following criteria to be considered:
1. Effective leadership and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate student success within all programs of the Department;2. Experience building and nurturing school-university partnerships;3. Five years of public school teaching experience with a strong focus in teacher education and certification;4. A strong record of active research and teaching excellence;5. Experience mentoring doctoral students and participating on doctoral dissertation committees;6. A doctorate degree in a field related to teacher education or curriculum and instruction,7. Experience attracting, supporting, and retaining ethnically and culturally diverse students, faculty, and staff; 8. Current academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, and eligible for tenure in the TAMU-CC College of Education and Human Development.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Current academic appointment as a Full Professor, 2. Experience with department accreditation and/or program review process, 3. Familiarity with TEA standards, 4. Experience integrating technology in the classroom and fostering student competency. 5. Grant writing experience.6. Experience with online course development and teaching.
